The concept of cross-training or the blend program is not new. It has been around for some time. However, recently, the new term "mixed martial arts or MMA" has been the buzz word in martial arts circles since the well publicized extreme fighting movement.
The fighters that have performed well in the "no holds barred" (NHB) events such as the UFC and Pride are those who have cross-trained in various disciplines and have acquired skills for different ranges of combat such as grappling, kickboxing and boxing, ect.
This now seemingly revolutionary movement is expressly what Bruce Lee and Dan Inosanto were espousing nearly 40 years ago with the philosophy and techniques of Jeet Kune Do (JKD); but they did not limit the techniques to competition-only movements.
Our students are introduced to fundamental principles of martial arts through an athletic approach to training. Realistic and contemporary training methods are utilized which stress cultivation of proper body mechanics, conditioning, power, speed, economy of motion, awareness, and knowledge of the various ranges of combat, with or without weapons.
Along with the development of physical skills, students will gain understanding of the philosophical, historical and moral implications of the martial arts.
